Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of psychogeography, walking as a spatial navigation strategy, and psychogeographic visualization and furthermore to create a psychogeographic map as an output of urban exploration. In addition, this research discusses the educational implications of the psychogeographic project and expansion strategies. Psychogeography as an attempt to combine geography and psychology thrived in the 1950-60s in Paris, and it has recently attracted attention in diverse areas. Walking allows the interaction between body and landscape, thus it represents one of the most effective methods to understand the city psychogeographically. In this study, I explored Yeongdo in Busan and created a psychogeographic map, or ‘The Naked Yeongdo’. As expanding pedagogical strategies of the psychogeographic perspective, the following are presented: Exploring cities actively and creatively through walking, experiencing space from diverse perspectives, and psychogeographic mapping activities. This study represents a preliminary attempt to introduce the notion of psychogeography to the Korean geography education society. Moreover, the article adds to the literature in that it offers specific applications of psychogeography and its pedagogical implications.
