Abstract

The purpose of this study is to introduce the geohumanities program within the Responsible Education Grade System implemented at Seoul National University and to explore its implications for geography education. The program, titled ‘Exploring Seoul National University’, is a university-elementary/middle school linkage initiative designed to provide students experiencing learning loss with meaningful and positive learning experiences. It aims to enhance students’ learning motivation and sense of competence through interactive campus exploration with university members. Participants deepen their understanding of the university as an institution while engaging in spatial inquiry across the campus. The program aspires to foster students’ motivation by (1) facilitating meaning- making through spatial exploration, (2) cultivating competencies within real-world contexts, and (3) encouraging interest in higher education. As a Responsible Education Grade System program developed from a geography education perspective, ‘Exploring Seoul National University’ offers valuable insights and suggests new directions for broadening the scope of geography education research.

이 연구의 목적은 서울대학교의 책임교육학년제 지리인문 프로그램을 소개하고 그것의 지리교육적 함의를 논하는 것이다. ‘서울大탐험’이라는 이름의 서울대학교-초·중학교 연계 지리인문 프로그램은 학습결손 학생들에게 긍정적인 학습 경험을 제공하고, 이를 통해 학습 동기 및 유능감을 증진하는 데 중점을 두고 있다. 참여자들은 서울대 구성원들과 상호작용하면서 캠퍼스를 탐험하고 대학이 무엇을 하는 곳인지에 대한 이해를 높인다. ‘서울大탐험’은 공간 탐색을 통한 의미 찾기, 실제 세계 맥락에서의 역량 함양, 대학에 관한 관심 제고를 통한 학습 의욕 고취라는 기대 효과를 가진다. 이 프로그램은 지리교육 맥락에서 개발된 책임교육학년제 프로그램이라는 점에서 시시하는 바가 있으며, 지리교육 연구의 외연을 확장하는 계기가 될 수 있을 것이다.
