Abstract
This study developed a metaverse-based model for teaching and learning cultural diversity in geography. The model guides students to investigate cultural issues by examining places and how space is used, and to develop reasoned proposals that consider multiple stakeholders’ rights and interests. An initial model was developed through analyses of curriculum documents, previous research, and case materials. An initial expert review, a ZEP-based lesson implemented with tenth-grade students for formative evaluation, and a re-examination of relevant theories informed revisions to the learning sequence, representations of places, and learning tasks. The revised model underwent a second expert review, and the feedback informed further refinements. The resulting provisional model comprises seven stages: identifying the problem; exploring Case A and developing an initial explanation of relationships among people and places; exploring Case B; comparing the cases using common criteria; revising explanations and reformulating principles of coexistence; evaluating options for reconciling stakeholders’ rights and interests; and presenting proposed solutions and reflecting on their limitations.
