According to the announcement of the draft of the 2022 Revised National Curriculum (November 24, 2021), the direction of the birth of high school geography elective courses is significant. It is the most meaningful step that academia, including the Geography Teachers Network, researchers at the Korea Institute of Curriculum Evaluation, and the Korea Geography and Environmental Education Association, responded in solidarity with the Future Geography Education Development Committee. As a result, A global citizens and geography, Exploration of Korean geography, Exploration of the future of cities, Travel geography, Climate change and a sustainable world were created in the high school elective subjects. However, the designation of the curriculum organization standard table (hereinafter referred to as the “organization table”) and the separation and division of middle school society and the marking of textbooks remain as target points to be achieved continuously. If there is no improvement in the questions for evaluating college entrance examinations, high school geography classes are feared to disappear until 2027, when 2022 Revised National Curriculum is fully applied. In addition, the launch of the National Board of Education in July 2022 means a change from the ‘curriculum of power’ to the ‘curriculum of politics’. It is time to pay attention and recognize the launch of the National Board of Education in order to clear the task of geographic education. In order to spread the right to speak about the curriculum, I would like to think about what geographers should have.
2022 개정 교육과정의 주요 사항 시안 발표(2021년 11월 24일)에 의하면 고등학교 지리 선택과목들의 탄생은 유의미하다. 지리교사네트워크와 한국교육과정평가원 연구진, 그리고 대한지리학회와 한국지리환경교육학회 등 학계가 미래지리교육발전위원회를 중심으로 연대하여 하나처럼 대응한 것은 가장 뜻깊은 발자취이다. 그 결과 고교 선택과목에서 세계시민과 지리, 한국지리 탐구, 도시의 미래 탐구, 여행지리, 기후변화와 지속가능한 세계가 만들어졌다. 하지만 교육과정 편제 기준표 표기와 중학 사회 분리･분책 및 교과서 기명은 지속적으로 요구하여 이루어야 할 목표 지점들로 남아 있다. 대수능 평가 문항 개선이 없다면 2022 개정 교육과정이 완전히 적용되는 2027학년도까지 고교 지리 수업은 소멸이 우려되는 상황이다. 더불어, 2022년 7월 국가교육위원회의 출범은 ‘권력의 교육과정’에서 ‘정치의 교육과정’으로의 변화를 의미한다. 지리교육의 과제를 청산하기 위하여 국가교육위원회 출범에 관한 관심과 인식이 필요한 시점이다. 교육과정에 대한 발언권을 확산시켜나가기 위하여 지리인들이 가져야 할 것은 무엇인가 고민하고자 한다.
